The Foundation of the name 'Onesapa'

The name Onesapa is based on two words:

  1. ‘Ones’ (pronounced as Honest)
  2. ‘Sapa’ (pronounced as Supper)

Onesapa’s grandfathers name is Anthonie. As a nickname people used to call him Ones.
Onesapa’s father’s name is Rene, hence he was called Ones as well. “Sapa” comes from the Moluccan/Indonesian word ‘who’. It’s also short for the island Saparua which is where his grandparents came from. In the Moluccan language words are often put in opposite order as in the western languages.

Ones Sapa means:

  1. Who is Ones?
A metaphor for Onesapa searching for his own identity hence he grew up in different cultures.
  2. Which “Ones” do you mean?
This refers to the fact Onesapa just looks like his father and grandfather
  3. Ones from Saparua
This refers to the Moluccan Island Saparua and thereby his Moluccan roots.

Lastly as a fun fact Joshua got the name Onesapa when his father created a PlayStation Network account for him at the age of sixteen. Joshua at first needed to get used to the name but later on fully adopted it.

Musical Influences and Orientation

Ever since Onesapa was a little boy he grew up with music all around him. First of all, music is embedded in his Moluccan and Dutch Indian culture. Furthermore, his father listened a lot to rock music as his mother was more into disco and reggae music.
